Artkino Film Club unites young people who want to express themselves in the art of cinema. For this we organize the exhibition of world cinema masterpieces, hold lectures (on directing, scriptwriting, editing, the history and theory of cinema), discussions and workshops aimed at learning the language of cinema, during such lessons each student has a chance to make his own short film. Now these are the 8th and 9th waves that study in our school (we have a tradition of calling each new course a “wave” according to the New Wave in French cinema).
Artkino Film Club has its branches in St.Petersburg and Sochi.
MasterClass Film Club organizes creative masterclasses with the leading Russian film-makers (directors, producers, scriptwriters, cinematographers) to put up the professional level of young film-makers. Up to now 150 master classes have been held. There have been meetings with director Andrey Zvyagintsev, who has two Venice Film Festival awards; winner of many international festivals, director of animated pictures Yury Norstein; director Alexey Popogrebsky; Kannes Film Festival winner, scriptwriter Yury Arabov.
Artkino Film Lab conducts experiments in development of cinema language. As a result the Triangle Theory of Cinema has been worked out.
Artkino Film Company specializes in short films. The Artkino producers look for and work on realization of interesting projects of young directors. Artkino Film Company has released more than 10 short films. Now 3 feature-length movies are in development.
Artkino Short Film Festival sees its mission in reviving independent cinema in Russia, inspiring discoveries in cinema language and driving attention to independent cinema by promoting short films created by cinema school students and non-professionals. Since 2008 200 films are presented during the festival each year, among them are features, documentaries, experimental films, animation and 3D/stereomovies. Acclaimed jury includes most famous Russian film-makers (e.g. Pavel Lungin, Kannes Film Festival winner, cinematographer Alisher Khamidkhodzhaev, Venice Film Festival winner). Each year a legendary film-maker addresses to the participants and guests of the festival with the words of welcome: in 2008 it was writer Tonino Guerra (Italy), in 2009 – director Krzysztof Zanussi (Poland), in 2010 – director Claude Lelouch (France).
Festival takes place in Moscow, Russia. For more information visit www.artkinofest.ru
